Rolled loot
Gear can drop with perks, bonuses written on the item like "+2 accuracy" or "2.5% of damage dealt heals you." Find good pieces, improve them, and run charts for the best ones.

Getting started
New to it? Press O for the Workbench: your pieces, what they break down for, and the Gem Bench.
- Wear the first rolled pieces that beat yours, and favorite the ones you like.
- Break the rest down for gem dust.
- Put a Kindled Ruby on a plain piece you love, then a second: now it's Legendary.
- Polish its best perk with Kindled Jade, and raise it with Kindled Diamonds to +3.
- Then charts, for more and better pieces.
Reading a piece
The color and the little mark show how many perks it has. Its name is built from them: a word in front, the item, and a phrase after, like Deadly Eclipse longsword of the Leech. Hover any piece to see its card.
| Rarity | Perks | How often a drop is |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary | none | what Smithing makes |
| Greater ★ | 1 | 85 in 100 |
| Legendary ♛ | 2 | 13 in 100 |
| Mythic ✸ | 3 | 2 in 100 (in a chart run, 0.5 up to tier 11, then rising to as much as 1 at tier 16 on the hardest maps) |
Perks work while the piece is worn (a tool's while it's in your hand). They add to the same numbers as everything else, under the same caps. Your Character window (C) shows the totals.
Two rare kinds: a ✸ Wyrd perk (purple) does something unusual, and a bargain (orange) has an upside and a downside. Bargains only ever come from the Wyrd Ink.
Where pieces come from
- Monsters: a piece of the monster's tier, a third of the time each for melee, archery and magic (plate, leathers or robes, a quiver or a magic bag, a bow or a wand), about 0.0063% a kill. A boss: 4.2%. A Wanted target drops four times as often, and a Champion five times.
- Gathering: rocks, trees and fishing spots turn up a rolled axe, pickaxe or rod, about once every 60,000 gathers.
- The Curio Cabinet: pick the style, the slot and the tier, and pay glimmer (the same for every style): 25 to 39 up to Diamond, 920 to 1,600 from Dragonstone up.
- Charts: monsters there drop much more, and the higher the tier, the more of it is Mythic.
Fight things near your level. A monster more than 15 levels below you drops less gear. Monsters over level 40 pay fewer tickets for each level. If your bag is full, a drop goes to your bank.
The Curio Cabinet and gem dust
It's in the Yard's north court, beside the Chart Table. Most pieces you find won't suit you: break them down for gem dust, 1 for a Greater piece, 2 for a Legendary, 5 for a Mythic. Nothing worn or favorited is ever broken down. The Curio tab sells a rolled piece of the slot and tier you choose, for gem dust.
The Gem Bench
Open it from the Workbench (press O, then Gem Bench). Pick a piece, pick a perk, use a gem. Nothing at the bench can break or lose a piece.
| Gem | Does |
|---|---|
Kindled Ruby | Adds a random perk to an empty slot: Ordinary becomes Greater, Greater becomes Legendary. 5-10% of the time the gem shatters; the piece is safe. |
Kindled Sapphire | Swaps the picked perk for a different random one. The others stay. 5-10% of the time the gem shatters; the piece is safe. |
Kindled Jade | Raises the picked perk by 5% of its range (one step at least), never past its top. 5-10% of the time the gem shatters; the piece is safe. |
Kindled Diamond | Raises the piece one level, up to +3. 5-10% of the time the gem shatters; the piece is safe. |
Starfire Ember | Legendary or Mythic: pushes the picked perk 25% past its top. 20% of the time it cracks instead. Once a piece. |
Flawless Jade | Mythic: every perk to its top roll; a pushed perk keeps its push, and a crack is mended. |
- Bosses: 7% of kills drop a Kindled gem (Ruby 34%, Sapphire 28%, Jade 34%, Diamond 5%), and 0.05% a Flawless Jade.
- Monsters of level 30 and up: 0.15% of kills.
- An Anomaly's boss: one Kindled gem, every time.
- Gem dust: the bench turns 15 into the Kindled gem you choose (40 for a Diamond; Bessemer's Gauntlets, the Smith's cape and Foreman's grease take 1% each off that, 10% at most).
- Every gem trades on the Exchange.
What a gem never touches: a hidden perk, a Wyrd perk or a bargain, and a unique artifact's power. A piece kept at +4 from before (an Old Hand) stays +4 and goes no higher. A Starfire Ember pushes a piece once, ever. Charts are worked at the Chart Table.
The old inks and tools are gone. Whatever you had was traded in for gems the next time you logged in, and the game told you what you got.
Staying alive, and resistances
Some perks read the monster's swing, everywhere: of the Dodger (hits miss), of the Buckler (shields: hits land for half), of Stone (no single hit takes more than a share of your health), of the Last Stand (less damage when you're low), of Thorns (hits come back) and of the Ox (more health). Resistance perks take off the part of a hit that is fire, frost, storm, void, sun, poison or bleed: see Fighting for which monsters hit with what.
