Harvesting

Pick crops that grow wild, and grow your own on your island. It's the only gathering skill that needs no tool.

Getting started

  • Three patches of wheat grow wild in the Yard: one in the northwest above the copper, one beside the path through the middle, and one out in the southwest meadow. Click them, and they grow back on their own.
  • You don't need anything in your hand: no tool, no grade, nothing but your level.
  • On your island, a plot grows in real time whether you're logged in or not, and pays back several of what you planted. That's where the levels are.

What you can grow

Most crops are their own seed: planting spends one of the thing you are growing, so the first of each kind has to be found. They drop from the monsters of the zone that grows them, at about 1.25% of kills. The four Wizardry flowers are the exception. They grow from Sun seeds, Ember seeds, Frost seeds and Void seeds, which drop from monsters all over the map at about 0.8% of kills, and you harvest the flower that ink is brewed from. What you can grow is decided by where you can survive.

How it works

  • Your island decides how many plots you have: 8 to start, 12 for 5,000, 20 for 20,000, 24 for 600,000, 26 for 1,000,000, 28 for 4,000,000 tickets. It multiplies everything else, so it's the upgrade that matters.
  • Plant the longest crop you can before you log off, and the short ones while you're around. A plot does nothing between ripening and your coming back, so timing is the real skill here.

Going further

  • The greenhouse: at Harvesting 75, Yahsmeena sells one for 25,000 tickets. Put it down and it has four more plots along its front, on any island, that grow a quarter faster. Frostbloom grows nowhere else.
  • The top three crops' seeds drop from monsters at their level: Bog rice seeds (Harvesting 70) from a Deckhand or a Clawhand; Primeval melon seeds (Harvesting 85) from a Caveman or a Sabretooth; Frostbloom seeds (Harvesting 99) from a Frost Wraith or the Frost Jarl. If you'd rather not fight, a harvest of the crop two rungs below turns one up now and then (about 0.67% of harvests).
  • Rich compost: at Harvesting 85, surplus crops and a bone go in the cellar's compost bin. A fungus bed planted with it grows a fifth faster.
  • The Harvester's cape: at Harvesting 99, Yahsmeena, on your island sells it for 99,000 tickets. Every harvest gives one more crop, and your plots grow a tenth faster.

Tips

  • It's background money, not a living. A full set of plots kept going makes a fraction of what fighting the same zone pays. The appeal is that it happens while you do something else.
