Woodcutting
Chop trees for logs. Logs burn into the charcoal every furnace needs, so Woodcutting feeds Smithing.

Getting started
- Put an axe in your weapon slot (not your bag).
- Click a tree. The first ones give logs, in the Gloam and the Boneyard, at Woodcutting 1.
- Most trees are just scenery. The ones you can chop have their own look; in the Yard, they're the two gnarled Old oaks. If clicking does nothing, it isn't a tree you can cut.
Where to chop
Each tree needs a Woodcutting level and a good enough axe, just like Mining.

How it works
- Trees fall. A tree gives 60 to 140 logs (an oak twice that), then comes back in 15 to 30 seconds.
- Not every swing lands. About 52% do at the tree's own level, climbing to 90% thirty levels later, and a little more with a better axe. Right-click a tree to see your chance.
- Logs are fuel. Every smelt needs charcoal, and charcoal is burned logs. That makes Woodcutting as important to Smithing as Mining is.
Tips
- A tree farther out isn't always worth more. Charcoal per log and Bom's price change separately, so check both columns before you walk somewhere.
- Burning logs is the only Smithing you can do at level 1, so a woodcutter has already started on Smithing.
