Getting started
- Put a pickaxe in your weapon slot (not your bag).
- Click a rock. The first ones are tin ore in the Gloam and the Yard, at Mining 1.
- Mine copper and tin together. A bronze bar needs one of each.
- Each rock gives 30 to 70 ore before it's empty, so stay on it.
Where to mine
Each rock needs a Mining level and a good enough pickaxe.

How it works
- Your level and your pickaxe are two separate checks. Emerald ore needs Mining 20 and an emerald pickaxe. Having the level with a bronze pickaxe does nothing. This is the most common reason a rock won't budge.
- The best rocks ask for a better pickaxe than their own grade. For example, nova ore needs an eclipse pickaxe. See Tools.
- Not every swing lands. At a rock's own level, about 52% do. Every level above it helps, up to 90% thirty levels later, plus 1% for each pickaxe grade above what the rock needs (up to 2%). Your first 25 levels land a little less. Right-click a rock to see your chance.
- Empty rocks come back in 15 to 25 seconds.
- Veins never run out. They're slower (about six seconds a swing, versus under two at a rock), but they don't empty, so they're great while you're half watching something else. The three-minute idle limit still applies.
Tips
- Don't sell raw ore. A bar is worth more than its ore, and gear is worth much more than bars.
- Some ores are ingredients for the top bars, not bars of their own. That's what makes the end of Smithing a chain.
