Thieving in the world

Thieving isn't just the Guild anymore. Monsters out in the world have pockets, most maps have a lockbox, and every map has a fenced-off corner your Agility can get you into.

Pockets

  • Click a monster and choose Pick pocket. Nobody can be picked while they're in a fight.
  • Get caught and you're stunned for a moment. Get away with it and that monster's pockets are empty for a minute.

Lockboxes

  • There's one on each of 17 maps.
  • Every try uses a lockpick (Vance the Fence sells them, 1,000 tickets each).
  • An open box gives 3 rolls of the guild's loot for its level, and it's yours again in 15 minutes.
  • About 5% of boxes hold a skeleton key: open a Crypt or Pyramid hoard with one in your bag and it rolls twice.

The false bottom. Every box you open is also checked under its lining, once, and now and then something is hiding there: your lockpick back, a house chip, a bit of luck, a geode, an ink. Never more than one per box.

Shortcuts and nooks (Agility)

A log, some stones, a rope, a gap in a fence: each gets you over a barrier, usually to a tree or a rock a tier above the map's own. You can slip and end up where you started; that happens less as your Agility climbs past the shortcut's level. A shortcut pays its XP once every 10 minutes, and a back way once every 30; you can cross as often as you like in between, it just pays nothing.
